Rovos Rail Journeys
Cape Town to Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

RELIVE THE ROMANCE OF A BYGONE AFRICA ON A NOSTALGIC EXPEDITION TO VICTORIA FALLS BY LUXURY TRAIN AND CLASSIC AIRCRAFT

This relaxing six-day journey commences in Cape Town and ends at the majestic Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

Between the two destinations is an adventure which includes 4 nights of luxurious accommodation on the train and one night’s accommodation off the train in a deluxe Pretoria hotel, with transfers to and from Rovos Rail’s private station in Capital Park.

Off-train excursions during the journey include a stop in the quaint Victorian village of Matjiesfontein, a tour of the historical mining town of Kimberley, an overnight stay in a Pretoria hotel land and a game drive in Hwange National Park before journey’s end at the Victoria Falls.

The off-train excursions start with a stop at Matjiesfontein. Your tour of this historic village may include a visit to the impressive museum on the platform, the motorcar and railway carriage museum, or a wander through the Lord Milner Hotel and its delightful grounds. Next stop is Kimberley and a guided tour of the world’s largest man-made excavation, the ‘Big Hole ‘and it’s supporting Mine Museum.

Splash out & buy a diamond at source! We arrive in Pretoria at 12h00 on Wednesday where you will be introduced to our beautifully appointed station and 56 acre property. You may participate in an optional tour of the city or have the afternoon at leisure before spending the night in your hotel.

The adventure continues on a Thursday as the train departs Rovos Rail’s gracious station at Capital Park in Pretoria.
This special journey departs in the morning and slowly meanders north towards Bela Bela, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn just after the station of Soekmekaar.

Once over the Soutpansberg mountains, north of Makhado we enter Baobab country. Few sights are more evocative of primeval Africa than the eerie silhouette of a Baobab tree starkly outlines against a ruddy African sunset.

South African border formalities will take place at Musina and then, very slowly over Beit Bridge, the train will ease itself into Zimbabwe. Continue in a north-westerly direction passing through Thompson’s Junction and Hwange Game Reserve where we enjoy an early morning game drive. Journeys end is the incomparable Victoria Falls on the mighty Zambezi River.
