Relaxation is the hallmark of Mnemba and the tempo of the day is yours to choose. The calm, azure seas around Mnemba offer irresistible water activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, fly fishing, windsurfing and swimming directly from the beach at no additional cost. Excellent birdwatching, beautiful walks around the Island or simply sun tanning on the pristine beach may also be enjoyed.
Optional extras include diving courses, deep-sea fishing, a tour of the ancient ‘Spice Island’ of Zanzibar, and a range of relaxing massages and therapeutic treatments.

Nesting place of threatened green turtles (monitoring and protection project has been underway since 1996)
Seasonal viewing of humpback whales (July to September)
Encounters with three species of dolphin
Excellent opportunities to view whale sharks (the world's largest fish)
Migratory and resident shore birds feed and roost on the Island
Approximately 600 species of coral reef fish

Best time to travel

Zanzibar is a tropical paradise with 300 days of sunshine. The monsoon winds provide a pleasant cooling breeze during the hot season from November to March (up to 30 degrees centigrade). Some people prefer the cool season from June to October when temperatures average 25 degrees centigrade. Chumbe Island is closed during the long rains between April and mid June, but can be visited during the short rain season from September to October with only occasional showers.

Getting there

Mnemba, an Arabic word meaning octopus head, is a 20-minute cruise in a traditional 16 foot flat-bottomed boat from the Island of Zanzibar. Just one-mile in circumference, a pristine swathe of beach halos the island, fringed by a tropical forest.
