Press Release - October 2007 – North Island was voted in by NBC viewers as the honeymoon destination for its “TODAY Throws a Martha Stewart Wedding” show. The show, seen by millions of viewers who voted for every aspect of the wedding from choosing the couple to the honeymoon destination, is one of the most watched morning shows on prime time TV in the USA.

This is the eighth year that TODAY has thrown a wedding for a lucky couple chosen by viewers. It’s the first year that Martha Stewart has joined TODAY as the wedding planner. Winning contestants Jessica and Cody got married in Manhattan courtesy of TODAY in a glamorous ceremony planned by Martha Stewart with the help of the wedding guests: millions of NBC viewers who participated in the planning at every step.

One of the final steps was that of choosing a honeymoon destination. NBC received more than 30 outstanding honeymoon itineraries this year – only four of which made the final cut – Greatways Travel indomitable Phoebe Weinberg in association with Wilderness Safaris put together the “Ultimate Island Honeymoon” featuring NORTH ISLAND. The Seychelles was up against Argentina and Uruguay, India and Turkey. North Island beat the competition and stole the imagination and support of all the millions of NBC viewers who voted overwhelmingly that the honeymoon couple should jet off to North Island and enjoy this “Robinson Crusoe” island paradise, with its 11 villas,  awe-inspiring architectural masterpieces with 4500 square feet of idyllic privacy each located on a spun-sugar powdery white sand beach overlooking the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean… barefoot luxury at its utopian best.

North Island (Seychelles)
Indian Ocean/Africa - Seychelles

“An unspoiled tropical haven of peace and tranquility.“

Because North Island has long been uninhabited, it is extremely fertile and has an abundance of fresh water. The new owners have come up with a concept, which they call “Noah's Ark“. The plan is to turn the island's environmental clock back 200 years through rehabilitation and by re-introducing many of the critically-endangered Seychelles species slowly over time, so that visitors are able to enjoy seeing some of this almost-extinct wildlife.

Villas 1 to 10 :- €2720 per night for two people fully inclusive.

Villa North Island (Villa 11) for 2 guests:-  €4950 per night.

Location

One of the most northerly of all the Seychelles’ granite inner islands, North Island, which measures 2.5 km x 1km and with a surface area of around 210 hectares (462 acres), lies approximately 32 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of Mahé and five kilometers north of Silhouette.

Accommodation

Just eleven magnificent Presidential Villas, an incredible 450 square meters (4,890 square feet) each, are handcrafted from wood, local stone and glass, and stand alone in complete seclusion and privacy. The huge villas include an inviting lounge and dining area equipped with deep, comfortable sofas that leads onto an expansive wooden deck with a private plunge pool and wide wooden steps down to the beach. Soft salsa music beckons those who wish to wile away the afternoon with a siesta amidst the swaying palm trees. A luxuriously proportioned bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with a marble bath and outside shower, whilst a separate room, ideal for children, has a DVD and a CD system.

Dining

The cuisine of North Island is based on the diversity and cultural influences which, in part, make up the Seychellois Creole flavor. Culinary aspects of Africa, France, southern India and South East Asia are combined with the organic resources of North Island and the abundance on offer from the Indian Ocean. Balanced with simplicity, these elements produce a feast that will awaken all of your senses. There is a “no menu“ concept of dining in the restaurant, i.e. the executive chef, Geoffrey Murray, speaks to the guest upon arrival, explains the North Island cuisine concept, finds out their food preferences and then develops the menus daily around this information.

Activities

Scuba diving, snorkeling, sea-kayaking, island bicycles, fly fishing. Private butler service, a state-of-the-art gym overlooking the sea, and a whole host of water sports that include reef and wall diving will entertain guests to their heart's desire. For those interested in the environment, fabulous birding and guided walks with the resident ecologist will inspire guests with enthusiasm for the “Noah’s Ark“ project and the concept of sustainability in this extraordinary paradise.

Best time to travel

You should plan your trip to the Seychelles around what you want to do. Windsurfing and sailing are best at the start and end of the trade winds, usually around May and October. During the south-east monsoon from May until October it is drier and slightly cooler. Diving is fantastic all year round with best conditions in March, April, May, September, October and November.
