Location

In a National Marine Park in Mozambique, lies an Archipelago of off shore islands known as The Bazaruto Archipelago. There are three main islands known as Margaruque, Benguerra and Bazaruto. On the second largest island, Benguerra lies idyllic Marlin Lodge.

Accommodation

Marlin's 19 En-Suite Chalets stretch along the beach of Flamingo Bay. Each sea-facing chalet has a private patio with a walkway down to the sandy white beach. The wood-reed-and-thatch chalets are a blend of elegance and African Island beauty.  Decorated with a hue of creams, browns, and slight blues, the chalets reflect luxury and essential comfort. Drift into a slumber listening to the lap of waves and the breath of trade winds in the palms.

Marlin Lodge Classic Chalet

These Chalets are a unique blend of Luxury, romance but yet a more rustic combination. The classic chalets have undergone a soft re-furbishment and have all received the new linen, furniture and little extras. The Marlin Classic Chalets all have a roof fan and new mosquito netting ,with an En-Suite bathroom. The roof is thatch and the walls are cladded with Mozambican reed, and are all west facing , towards the sunset. Each Chalet has its own balcony with deck chairs as well as direct access to the beach in front of the room. Maximum of two guests per chalet. Selected classic chalets share a balcony.

Marlin Lodge Luxury Chalet

These Chalets are the fully and newly renovated style. These rooms have four-poster beds, soft bedding, beautiful furniture, roof fan as well as air-conditioning and many extras. The roof is thatch and cladded with canvas to give a tented feel; the walls are a combination of washed plaster on brickwork and Mozambique reed. They are all west facing towards the sunset. The bathrooms in these chalets are open plan, this includes the shower and toilet facility’s. Of these 6 luxury chalets 4 of them are in a family unit, where 2 chalets share a common balcony, and walkway to the beach a total of 2 units is available. A maximum of 2 guests per Luxury Chalet.

Marlin Lodge Luxury Suite

Featuring its own relaxing lounge area with a private bar as well as a separate casual lounge area, a spacious balcony and direct private access to the beach. The bathroom in this chalet is open plan, this includes the shower and toilet facilities. The Luxury Suite is ideally suited for guests seeking a space, privacy, style and luxury. It has a roof fan as well as air-conditioning. A maximum of 2 guests in the Luxury Suite.

Marlin Lodge Executive Suite

These 3 Suites are the most recent refurbished rooms. Their size is about 100 square meters including the En-Suite bathroom, each Suite features 2 lounges, a built in mini bar, 2 basin areas, vanity area, inside and outside showers. They all feature a king size four poster bed, with air-conditioning, and a roof fan. The patios have a hammock, sitting area, and private walkway to the beach.
These suites are the pride of Marlin Lodge, and aimed at the more up market traveler. Maximum of two guests in a suite.

Dining

Marlin Lodge cuisine is a colorful and exotic delight... Venues vary from, semi-formal in the open air dining room, to the exquisite beach, for a once in a life time "dining under the stars". Crisp salads, spicy poultry, limitless flavors of seafood creates a blend of Afro-Asia and Portuguese cuisine.

Activities

Slip across translucent shallows on a sailboard, or fly a haul on one of Marlin' catamarans. Seek the deserted islands in the Archipelago on a exquisite motorised yacht. And when the day turns, watch the sun set over the ocean while softly sailing along on a dhow sundowner cruise.

Fishing at Marlin Lodge

Marlin: The Bazaruto Archipelago is ranked as the best Marlin Angling destination in the eastern Indian Ocean. The all Africa record for Black Marlin (590kg/1298lb) was landed in these waters in Nov 98, while the average weight is 350kg/770lb. A 5.3/11.6lb Garfish-a pending world record was hooked in Dec. Best months: October – March Maximum 6 anglers on rotating basis.

Sailfish: The average weight for Sailfish is 32kg/70,4lb while the record in these waters are 59,9kg/118,5lb. Other species to challenge are: several Tuna species, Wahoo, Prodigal son, Yellow fin, Skipjack, Dorado, Giant Kingfish, Barracuda, King and Queen Mackerel.
Best months: May - September , Abundant in July and August, April – August. Maximum 6 anglers on rotating basis.

Best time to travel

The Weather in the Bazaruto Archipelago is warm all year round, the warmest months are December/January/February average of 29 degrees Celsius, the colder months are June/July/August average of 25 degrees Celsius. The rainy month is February and Marlin Lodge is Closed during this month.

Getting there

Depart Johannesburg International Airport on a direct flight to Vilanculos Airport in Mozambique.
Upon arrival, you will be met by a Marlin Lodge representative who will assist you
with the customs procedures and luggage handling, and will transfer you by road to Donna Anna Jetty (10 minutes), from where a 30 minutes boat trip to Marlin Lodge follows.
