Day  01  Nairobi  BB

You are met on arrival and transferred to the Safari Park Hotel, just on the outskirts of the city centre in a fashionable suburb. The hotel has excellent accommodation, spacious gardens with exotic trees, plants and waterfalls, and seven restaurants, including the Nyama y Choma which also offers a regular entertainment. Arrangements are for bed and breakfast.

Day   02  Nairobi - Samburu Game Reserve [4 hours approximately] DBB

Leave Nairobi after breakfast and drive up to the Equator crossing for a short stop to see the "performing of the waters", where a local entrepreneur demonstrates the clockwise and anticlockwise properties of running water on each side of the Equator line.

Continue to Samburu, where you arrive at your lodge for lunch. In actual fact there are three adjoining reserves, Samburu, Buffalo Springs  and Shaba, situated in arid country north of Mount Kenya, and watered by the Uaso Ngiro River and natural springs. It is very scenic, with craggy hills and everywhere Doum palms following the water courses.

Some unusual animal species can be found here; the Reticulated Giraffe, Oryx, Lesser Kudu, Grevy's Zebra, and the Gerenuk, known as the "Giraffe Gazelle". Most of the game viewing takes place around the forests along the river, and this is a good place to spot the elusive leopard. In the afternoon there will be a game drive. Dinner and overnight Samburu Serena Lodge.

Day   03   Samburu Game Reserve    LDBB

Early morning game drive is followed by breakfast , and time to relax by the lodge pool or the terrace overlooking the river. After lunch there will be another game drive. Overnight Samburu Serena Lodge.

Day   04  Samburu Game Reserve - Aberdares [4 Hours approximately]  LDBB

Leave after breakfast and drive south and into the forests of the Aberdare Mountains and the Mountain Lodge arriving for lunch. Serena Mountain Lodge , is a tree hotel set in a forest glade and with a waterhole which attracts all sorts of wildlife during the day, and when it is floodlit at night. There is a feeling of drama here as you wait in anticipation on the verandah, and it is one of the few times on a safari where you await the animals to come to you instead of the other way around.

And when you finally go to bed after dinner you can make arrangements to be called if anything significant comes to the waterhole during the night. Overnight Serena Mountain Lodge.

Day   05   Mountain Lodge - Great Rift Valley [4 Hours approximately] LDBB

Drive via Nyahururu Falls [formerly Thomson Falls] up the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley and on to Lake Nakuru National Park, and the lodge of the same name, where you arrive in time for lunch. Lake Nakuru is a soda lake often frequented by thousands of Greater and Lesser Flamingos lining the shore in a pink mass. There is also a Rhino Sanctuary, and it the forests around the lake there is a variety of wildlife, especially Bushbuck and Reedbuck, giraffe  and sometimes lion and leopard, especially up on the baboon escarpment. There will be a game drive after lunch. Overnight Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Day   06   Great Rift Valley - Masai Mara Game Reserve [5 Hours approximately]  LDBB

After breakfast you leave for the Masai Mara arriving at your lodge for lunch. This Reserve is one of Africa's best known wildlife areas, and is part of the Serengeti ecosystem. A land of undulating hills and rolling grasslands it supports a large animal population.

Even a casual visitor is treated to the sight of Lions in prides sometimes numbering more than thirty beasts with a handsome black maned male in dominance ; a cheetah at great speed runs down its prey; a leopard in the lower branches with its kill.

In the Mara river there are crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks, and hippos  playing in the water. Elephant, Cape Buffalo,  Giraffe, Topi, Gazelle are all in abundance, and during the months of July to September the great migration of Wildebeest and Zebras spill over from the Serengeti. The sight of these beasts legging it across the Mara River, avoiding both the crocodiles in the river, and the predators harassing them from behind is amazing, and the topic of some of the most spectacular photography ever seen.

In the afternoon there is a game drive followed  by dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge.
