"Kenya and Tanzania Classic" - (10 Days)

Day 1   Nairobi  

You are transferred to the Nairobi Serena Hotel, just on the outskirts of the city center in a fashionable suburb.  Arrangements are for bed and breakfast.

Day 2   Nairobi - Nanyuki

Morning flight to Nanyuki. Transfer to Sweetwaters Camp. Lunch and afternoon activity.

Accommodation is provided in luxuriously appointed tents, set under thatch, with en-suite facilities and private verandah. Each tent overlooks the waterhole.

Within the quaint, original farmhouse is the dining room, bar and reception with its superb accommodation, personal service, first class cuisine and outstanding array of activities.

Options include night game drives by four-wheel-drive vehicles, walking safaris escorted by a knowledgeable ranger, bird walks, camel safaris and outdoor dining ensure there is always plenty to do.

Day 3    Nanyuki – Masai Mara, via Nairobi

Drive back to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch. After lunch you boar a plane and fly to the Masai Mara. Upon arrival, you will be met by a guide from camp and spend the rest of the afternoon on a game drive en route to camp. Overnight at Mara Serena Lodge on a full board basis..

Day 4          Masai Mara

Morning and afternoon game drives in the Masai Mara. Overnight at Mara Serena Lodge on a full board basis.

In the Mara river there are crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks , and hippos playing in the water. Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Giraffe, Topi, Gazelle are all in abundance, and during the months of July to September the great migration of wildebeest and zebras spill over from the Serengeti. The sight of these beasts legging it across the Mara River, avoiding both the crocodiles in the river, and the predators harassing them from behind is amazing, and the topic of some of the most spectacular photography ever seen. In the afternoon there is a game drive followed by dinner and overnight at the Masai Serena Lodge.
Day 5               Masai Mara - Serengeti

This morning after an early breakfast you will transfer by road (with a picnic lunch) to the Isebania border post between Kenya and Tanzania. (Around 3 hours) From here you will be met and transferred the short distance to a local airstrip where you’ll fly by light aircraft into the Serengeti. (around a ½ hour flight) Please note that this may change and a combination of charter/transfer or just a transfer may operate this Isebania-Serengeti route at certain times of the year. Check when enquiring about this safari. Upon arrival into the Serengeti, you will be met by a Ranger Safari guide and continue to the lodge with a game drive en route.

This is flexible depending on the guest’s wishes. Overnight at Serengeti Serena Lodge on a full board basis.

Day 6               Serengeti

Day 7     Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast you depart for Ngorongoro Crater, viewing game across the vast Serengeti plains and stopping off at Olduvai Gorge en route. The Gorge acquired its name from the Sansevieria bush that grows profusely in the area, named Olduvai by the Maasai. The Gorge is about 50km long and in some places around 90m deep and is found between the Crater and the Serengeti. It was first discovered by a German entomologist named Professor Kattwinkel, who instigated an expedition just before the First World War. Later, the exploration was continued by Dr Louis Leakey and his wife, who in 1959 found humanoid remains of Zinjanthropus, later renamed Australapithicus Boisei, an early form of man.

You will have time to walk through the simple small museum at the gorge, where you can view copy displays of some of the finds as well as pictures of what life was like for the gorge’s earliest inhabitants. Upon arrival at the lodge, you’ll have lunch and some time to relax, before departing on a gentle nature walk with a lodge naturalist. Overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge on a full board basis.

Day 8      Ngorongoro Crater

A highlight awaits you this morning as you depart by 4x4 to explore what is commonly referred to as the World’s largest wildlife zoo. After breakfast, you’ll descend through the early morning mists and 2,000 feet into the crater for a full day of game viewing with a picnic lunch. Ngorongoro Crater is the World’s largest intact volcanic caldera and is also one of the World’s seven natural wonders.

Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is comprised of several distinct habitats, ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and some sandy dunes. It’s an awesome wildlife experience. Late afternoon you leave the Crater and drive back to the lodge for the evening. Overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge on a full board basis.

Day 9        Ngorongoro Crater - Lake Manyara

After breakfast, you leave the Crater and drive through the highlands to Lake Manyara, stopping off at Mto wa Mbu village en route for a great cultural lunch. From here, you’ll continue to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive before ending the day on the rim of the crater at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge.

Day 10        Lake Manyara - Arusha (approximately 2½  hours), Nairobi

Today you’ll depart after breakfast and head east, down the fascinating escarpment of the Rift Valley towards the village of Makuyuni and onto Arusha. The journey will pass through the Masai Steppe filled with many picturesque African villages as well as maize, coffee and banana plantations. Upon arrival into Arusha you’ll have lunch before being dropped of to catch the flight to Nairobi. From here, you will be transferred for your onward arrangements.
