Mana Pools (Zimbabwe)

Appreciate the opportunity to silently glide past a large array of birds and mammals feeding and drinking at the river’s edge, undisturbed by our tranquil passing....

Natureways Safaris offers both participatory
“Explorer” and fully-backed up “Odyssey”  canoe safaris ranging from 2 to 9 nights...

Natureways Safaris offers two very unique and exciting ways of discovering the mighty Lower Zambezi in a canoe.
These are our
Explorer Trails or our Odyssey Trails and whatever your preference, we can offer you a truly magical experience in the surroundings of the Zambezi Valley.

All Natureways Safaris’ trails are lead by Professional Guides who have passed the rigorous tests set by National Parks and who have all studied and passed a Medical Air Rescue Services first aid course. Each guide carries a weapon and radio.

EXPLORER TRAILS

ODYSSEY TRAILS

Natureways Safaris’ Explorer Trails offer seven different trips on the Lower Zambezi River as it meanders from the wondrous gorges of Kariba and Mupata, to the rolling flood plains of the Mana Pools area and beyond. These Canoe Safaris are semi-participatory i.e. you can participate in setting up and taking down the camps (if you chose) and are suited to clients who have an adventurous spirit and who enjoy the truly outdoors experience.

All Explorer Canoe Safaris are expeditionary- styled, so therefore all equipment is carried on the canoes and the canoeists camp on islands each night - baggage is therefore limited to 10kg per person.

For all of our Explorer Canoe Safaris we ask our guests to be in Kariba the night prior to their departure and meet with their guide and fellow travel companions for a pre- trip briefing. The guide will discuss the basic outline of the trip and safety precautions and we encourage all our guests not to hesitate to ask any questions regarding the trip.

On the morning of departure guests are collected from their hotels and brought to the Natureways Office where valuables can be locked up in the safe.

From the offices the group will set off for the river – stopping en route to purchase any extras required e.g. mineral water and/or alcoholic beverages.

A typical day would be as follows: - early wake up with tea/coffees/biscuits, paddle for an hour or two, stop for a full English Breakfast. Paddle until lunchtime, a meal consisting of pickles, cold meats and salads, followed by a siesta (or fishing time) for a couple of hours. Set off again for a gentle afternoon paddle to an island for the night stop.

Included in the costs of these safaris are return transfers to/from Kariba Town, all camping and canoeing equipment, all meals, teas, coffees, cordials and Zimbabwean Wine served with dinner, fully qualified canoe guide.

National Parks Fees are not included in any costs. Please check with your booking agent before travel.

Natureways Safaris’ Odyssey Trails offer a more luxurious experience. Our Mana Shoreline Canoe Safari allows our guests to enjoy the wonders of Mana Pools National Park whilst drifting silently along the mighty Zambezi River. This is a fully backed-up safari, where the camps are set up each day at each different campsite by our camp staff. This stunning safari offers the opportunity of walking and canoeing, accompanied by our professional walking and canoeing guides.

All Odyssey Trails include: - Professional Guides, all backed-up safari camping and canoeing equipment, quality snacks and meals, and a full bar (local drinks).

Natureways Safaris’ Odyssey Trails do not include transfers and the fastest and most efficient transfer is to charter in and out of Mana Pools, if you would like help in organising a charter please contact us, or your travel agent. All of our guests are asked to arrive in Mana Pools no later than 11.30 a.m. so as to ensure you begin canoeing on your first day (Mana Shoreline Canoe Safari).

National Parks Fees are not included in any costs; please check with your booking agent before travelling

A typical day would be as follows – Early morning wake up with teas, coffees and biscuits then an early start in the canoes for a morning paddle to catch the majestical African sunrise, then a breakfast stop on the banks of the river under some large acacia trees after a rest it is back in the canoes for a few hours paddling. This is also a great time to get in some walking.

After enjoying the sights and sounds of the morning’s bird and wildlife, take a break and enjoy a light lunch of salad’s cold meats and cold drinks, there is time for an afternoon siesta before we begin the afternoon paddling.

From the lunch spot drift slowly down the river and enjoy the prolific bird life that abounds the shores of the river, and then reach the night’s camping spot where our guests will be greeted warmly by the camp staff.
