Nestled on 22 000
hectares of conservancy, Makalali prevails as one of the FINEST
PRIVATE GAME LODGES IN THE WORLD. Four exclusive camps, each
consisting of six spacious suites adjacent to a stilted Sala set
amongst Jackalberry trees, are equipped with ALL THE MODERN
CONVENIENCES YOU COULD WISH FOR. Amenities on offer at each camp
include a uniquely designed swimming pool, boma, airconditioning, and
an enclosed dining and lounge area.
Considered one of the LEADING PIONEERS IN ECOTOURISM in South Africa,
Makalali Private Game Reserve represents a conservation mission to
expand South Africa's green frontier by re-establishing the ancient
wildlife migration routes that linked the famous Kruger Park in the
east to the lush Drakensberg Mountains in the west. In the process
lion, cheetah, leopard, elephant, and rhino have all been reintroduced
to the wild, making Makalali HOME TO OVER ONE THOUSAND WILD ANIMALS
including four of Africa's "Big Five". |

Accommodations:
|
Each of the four camps
is private, yet within easy access of one another and are all situated
on the banks of the Makhutswi River. Each camp has it’s own plunge
pool, private viewing deck, dining area and Boma.
Makalali has an entertainment area, which is utilised for conferencing
or as a dining area for large groups. Each room is decorated to
Makalali’s unique style with rich African cloth from East Africa to
enhance that sense of utter bliss and peacefulness and a billowing
mosquito net, to protect us from the nasties.

Tandane (camp 1) means
"place of love". Phiva (camp 4) means Waterbuck however you will find
Nyala here which roam the camp and call it their home. Mkhiwa (camp 2)
means Sycamore Fig, due to the large fig tree standing over the main
area and creating shade. Its sister camp Emtomeni (Camp 3) means
Jackelberry Tree, created in order to accommodate groups of more than
six rooms at a time, but with a twist – each camp can still run
separately with its own dining area, to create that personal touch.
Each room has its own sala (an airy gazebo perched above the bush)
where guests can enjoy their own time, also creating the ideal spot
for a private luncheon or dinner.
The bathroom facilities are airy with an outside shower for those hot
days or starry evenings. Victorian style baths are in all the rooms
for whenever the weather chases us in, each room also has its own
fireplace fully stocked with logs from the reserve. |
