Mkuze Falls Game Lodge
Zululand-(South Africa)

Location:

Mkuze Falls Game Lodge is beautifully situated in the heart of historic Zululand, not far from the Mkuze Falls, on the Mkuze River which never fails to flow. The site of the reserve was once part of the historic "Boer Republic", when pioneer leader Piet Retief bought the land from King Dingaan, half- brother of King Shaka. The Natal Parks of Hluhluwe and Umfolozi are only an hour away. Pongola has an airstrip and a private airstrip will soon be built near the lodge.

You'll find that Northern Natal is quiet and peaceful....The Lodge is only 25 minutes by car from the small town of Pongola in Northern Natal, near the border with Swaziland. Pongola has shops, banks and an attractive 9-holes golf course for your pleasure.

Via the the N2 between Johannesburg and Durban the journey only takes :

  • 4 ½ hours from Johannesburg
  • 3½ hours from Durban
  • 2 hours from Richards Bay

Come and enjoy our beautiful Lodge and experience the richness that this part
of Africa has to offer!

Accommodation:

The Main Lodge is built in the attractive local style and comprises of a pleasant dining area, an inside bar, an outside bar, a shady terrace, a lapa or barbecue area, a large pool and a curio shop.

The large lounge with its spacious verandah or viewing deck is built over the slope to the river, providing panoramic views of the winding Mkuze  River and the fascinating  landscape beyond.

The characteristic thatched, twin bedded chalets are very spacious, have air conditioning and large beds with prepared mosquito nets.

Each chalet has its own entrance and is equipped with a minibar, a luxurious bathroom with an adjoining outside shower and a private splashpool. Furthermore each chalet has its own  viewing deck and is, like the outside shower, completely private.

Mkuze Falls Game Lodge has experienced kitchen and waiting staff who are highly motivated and trained to indulge and surprise even the most discerning guest.

The menus vary every day and naturally feature South African barbecued dishes as well as local venison specialties, amongst other things. Vegetarian meals will be prepared upon request.

Game Viewing / Activities:

The landscape varies widely between hills and valleys, dense  bush and open spaces. The panoramic views are so beautiful they will stay with you forever.

The vegetation features plants, bushes and trees which are amongst the most abundant South Africa has to offer.

Traditionally, Natal is the birthplace of the white and black rhino. The white rhino is still often encountered in the bush and in the near future Mkuze Falls hopes to reintroduce the black rhino back into its natural habitat.

Apart from rhino your path may be crossed by elephant, hippo, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, warthog and giraffe. The plainsgame includes antelope such as kudu, bushbuck, waterbuck, zebra reedbuck, wildebeest,  and many more. The elusive Nyala, with its beautiful markings, occurs in greater numbers here than anywhere in the world.

Safaris are conducted in open Landrover Safari vehicles and take place in the morning, late afternoon and early evening. The safaris are led by experienced rangers and specially trained nature guides. They will be able to answer all your questions about the flora and fauna in a professional manner. Asphalt roads are unknown at Mkuze Falls, so your safari is still a highly adventurous experience.
