Mfuwe Lodge and Bush Camps (Zambia)

All the materials used in the construction of the new Lodge, including thatch for the roofs, timber and stone have been obtained locally. Great attention has been given to environmental issues, and the low profile lodge blends totally with the surrounding environment.

The open-plan design of  Mfuwe's new structures keeps the comfort and relaxation of guests in mind, but also capitalizes on the fact that an African wilderness experience is a blend of colors and textures, sounds, aromas and sights unmatched anywhere else in the world.

The open plan central lodge facility incorporates reception, lounge, dining and bar areas, under a thatch roof supported by palm poles and dominated by two impressive chimneys at opposite ends. This cool and airy central meeting place is the heart of the lodge. It opens onto a broad timber deck that cantilevers dramatically over the main lagoon. From the comfort of the Lodge guests may view some of Africa's majestic wildlife as animals come down to drink.

The deck area in front of the lounge accommodates the swimming pool which also overlooks the main lagoon. In between game drives, walks and meals, guests may relax around the pool or in the unique library which is entirely dedicated to nature conservation related issues, African culture, tradition and history. The library also include a video library and has its own timber deck which overlooks the main lagoon. Here people can read or write in peace and soak up the tranquility of Africa at its best.

Accommodation:

Mfuwe Lodge: Mfuwe Lodge is positioned inside Zambia's South Luangwa National Park, three kilometers away from the main Mfuwe gate. Built between two spectacular lagoons, this new lodge offers remarkable game viewing right from your balcony.

Accommodation is provided in 18 open-plan chalets, each with en-suite bathroom. One third of each chalet's perimeter can be opened, to allow the guest to enjoy the views, the sounds, the scents and the mood of the African wilderness. Each chalet has a large private deck overlooking one of the lagoons. The bathrooms have both bath and shower, with separate toilet.

The bathing corner can be completely opened to offer guests an open-air bathing experience. Five Chalets are suites with an elevated sleeping area, to allow space for a double bed, and increased lounging area. Each room has a private bar. The thatched roof has been designed to guarantee maximum ventilation, even though all rooms on the lagoon are dramatically sheltered by huge ebony trees.

The Bush Camp Experience

Tailor make your stay with us by spending a few nights in our bush camps as well as at our new lodge. Mfuwe Lodge has two bush camps which are situated in the South of the South Luangwa National Park. The camps are within walking distance from each other and we recommend to our guests to spend a few nights at each camp.

An ideal seven nights safari could include your first two nights at Mfuwe Lodge, followed by two nights at Bilimungwe Bush Camp - then a morning walk of about three and half hours to Kuyenda Bush Camp where you will spend another two nights. Your last night will again be spent in the luxury of main Mfuwe Lodge. The stay at the bush camps will allow the guest to visit one of the wildest areas of the Luangwa Valley, giving them a true feeling of a real African bush experience.

Bilumungwe Bush Camp - Meaning 'chameleon' in the local language, Bilimungwe lies on the edges of a lagoon and is shaded by Natal Mahogany and Winter thorn trees.

The Camp can only accommodate eight people and is primarily intended for walking safaris, although evening game drives in the area are excellent for spotting the big cats. Accommodation is in exquisitely built reed and thatched chalets with en-suite facilities.

Each chalet has two queen sized double beds with large mosquito nets and an individual rechargable lighting system. The rustic dining area and fully stocked bar offer panoramic views of Bilimangwe's water hole and the abundant resident game that it attracts. The thatched dining canopy provides a cool and comfortable environment in which to enjoy this idyllic setting. The surrounding forest of evergreen shade trees form a majestic backdrop for those seeking the unique African experience.

Kuyenda Bush Camp - Built on the banks of the Manzi river in a remote part of the South Luangwa National Park, Kuyenda is the ideal base from which to experience the continual unfolding of Africa's dramatic wilderness at close range.

Whether you choose walking safaris, day and night game drives or combination of both, Phil's knowledge and years of experience will guarantee you one of the best safaris ever and will always remain your true African experience.

With only 3 en-suite chalets, Kuyenda offers exclusive personalized service and tranquility for no more than 6 guests. The dining room and lounge area lies under an ebony grove overlooking the plains across the lagoon and accommodation is also en-suite at this remote site.

Chideni Bush Camp is a sister camp to Bilimungwe but has an altogether different theme and character. The camp nestles on the apex of a permanent oxbow lagoon, offset by the magnificent Nchendeni Hills.

This is the ideal spot for both the avid and intrepid Game spotter as well as the more sedentary visitors who wish to observe nature at it's best without too much personal effort.

Raised on wooden decking, Chindeni's four en-suite tents provide the same luxury features as Bilimangwe. Each tent has its own raised veranda from which to view the resident game and enjoy the serene yet breathtaking tranquility of the vast lagoon, from a vantage point of relative safety.

A different kind of safari adventure!

Instead of the conventional experience of yet another exhilarating Game Drive, our guides and game scouts will take you on an unforgettable journey, on FOOT, through the Magnificent Wonders of the Untouched African Bush.

This is where walking safaris began and the beauty, remoteness and unparalleled quality remains to this day. It awaits those who seek an experience that is truly breathtaking in the extreme and those who wish to live wild and away from all of the worlds distractions.
