Island Bush Camp
South Luangwa Valley (Zambia)

Location:

This small, personalized camp lies under a grove of Mahogany trees on the only habitable island in the Luangwa River. The Island Bush Camp offers rustic accommodation in grass/reed huts, with the modern comforts of hot showers and running water. Each chalet has a private verandah overlooking the Luangwa River.

Island Bush camp is seasonal and is open from 1st June to 1st Nov only.

For the more adventurous, we offer ported Safaris from Island Bush Camp.

The Island Bush Camp is 2 hours drive south of Kafunta River Lodge in a very remote game-rich area of the southern section of the Park. In this complete solitude far away from other operators we offer exclusive walking safaris.

As an adventurer with us, you will experience the game rich Mfuwe area, which offers all game drive safaris and gives you a great opportunity to discover a large area of the National Park.

We then move on to Island Bush Camp, an ideal base to discover the bush on a walking Safari, that will bring you closer to nature in complete safety. An armed scout and a professional Safari guide escort you on all our safaris.

Game Viewing / Activities:

The South Luangwa is an area of superb game viewing and our open 4x4 game vehicles are the ideal way to discover the National Park. We offer a fantastic range of game activates from game drives, night drives, walking safaris and bird watching tours to cultural tours which can be combined as per your request. All our activities are of the highest standard and accompanied by experienced, qualified safari guides.

The day starts with a early morning wake up call, then a light breakfast is served before you head out on your morning game drive which lasts approximately 3 to 4 hours. The early start will give you the chance to experience the awakening of the African bush with its great diversity. The cooler morning hours are a good time to see the animals' morning activities. We have a tea break in the Park and return for brunch at the Lodge.

Our night drives give you the unique opportunity to see the great variety of nocturnal animals and the chance to see Lions and Leopards in their time of ease. With a bit of luck you might experience the big cats hunting. The safari starts in the late afternoon hours and we stop for a drinks and snacks while watching the magnificent African sunset before we continue the safari after dark.
The night drives are accompanied by our qualified Safari guides and an experienced spotter, who will find a great variety of game with the powerful spotlight. We return to the Lodge around 8:30 for dinner. Optionally, we offer all day or half day drives into different areas of the National Park, we take a table and chairs for a picnic lunch in the bush. This gives you the opportunity to discover a vast area of the National Park.
The walking Safaris are a great opportunity to be at one with nature. Our qualified, experienced Safari guides and armed National Park rangers will escort you safely into the true wild African Bush. The Luangwa Valley is one of the few places in Africa where it is possible to walk amongst wildlife in true wilderness. During the walking safaris our guides will have the chance to explain the little details of the bush, spoor, vegetation and the ecology… an unmatched wildlife experience
