Impalila Island Lodge (Namibia)

Game Viewing and Tiger Fishing at it's best!

Location:

Our unique island is situated at the meeting place of two mighty African rivers, the Chobe and Zambezi, and four countries, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana.

This is the only place in the world where four countries meet. Impalila Island forms the north-eastern tip of Namibia and lies just 70km's west of Victoria Falls. The surrounding area is an amazing mosaic of waterways, floodplains and bushveld:- host to exceptional birdlife, game viewing and assorted vegetation - and in the waters outstanding fishing opportunities.

Accommodation:

Eight private en-suite chalets built of wood and thatch - on the edge of the fast flowing Mambova rapids of the Zambezi river- all with private decks and superb views. A choice of king size or twin beds; overhead fan; mosquito nets and hairdryers are supplied. Electricity is supplied by generator.

Pilots and guides are accommodated in Commiphora House - which consists of two en-suite twin rooms.

Facilities and activities:

The main complex built to incorporate two massive baobab trees, with swimming pool, lounge, dining and bar area, curio shop, small reference library and very spacious deck areas. Apart from luxurious accommodation, culinary delights, and a belief that guests should be able to choose how they spend their leisure time, a wide variety of activities are offered. It is our policy that all activities are professionally guided, and we have the expertise to cater for special interest visitors (e.g. birding / fishing).

Fishing - A choice of fishing in the Zambezi, Chobe, Kasai or Kwando rivers as well as the Mambova rapids, and backwaters of the floodplains makes our island fishing opportunities magnificent. Fly fishing or traditional angling from either motorized boat or mokoro for a variety of African species is possible and. our guides are professional and very knowledgeable on the area. We have fishing equipment at the lodges. Impalila is well known for its exciting tiger fishing. We have enough boats, vehicles and guides at our lodges that guests can structure their own time activity experience.

Our islands are an experience of sensory fulfillment. We offer excellent cuisine - al-fresco style in a variety of romantic settings under the baobab canopy - or perhaps a picnic on a wild island. Our chefs can cater for any special dietary requirements - guests just need to inform reservations in advance.

We offer a fully stocked bar and are proud of our comprehensive range of South African wines - rarely seen in such remote destinations! Our lodges romantically cater for special occasions such as honeymoons, anniversaries and birthdays. Guests are surprised with moonlight dinners on a river sandbank, a private candlelit dinner for 2 on your own deck or a champagne brunch at the historical baobab.

Game Viewing / Activities:

At Impalila game viewing by boat in the Chobe National Park for Africa's big game is preferable at sunset. At Susuwe game drives in open 4 x 4 vehicles are done in the Bwabwata National Park. Game sightings in this cradle of rivers could include vast herds of roaming elephant and buffalo, lion, hippo, leopard, sable, roan, lechwe and puku for example. Night drives at Susuwe offer an even closer insight into the intrigue of the African bush. Our island locations offer access to Africa's most hidden river treasures. Impalila Island Lodge, situated at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe rivers, provides access to 120km's of Zambezi river - inhabited only by amazing bird and fishlife and the odd traditional fishing village of the timeless Lozi people. The Chobe river cruises reward guests with stunning big game viewing and excellent fish. We operate a variety of motorized watercraft - with enough flexibility to enforce our ethos that our guests can choose how they spend their time with us. Time spent with us will leave you with a wonderful insight into the uncharted cradle of rivers which we are privileged to be part of.
