ball.gif (1653 bytes) The Garden Route - Undoubtedly one of South Africa's highlights, a region of high mountains, lush forests, sunkissed beaches and quaint little towns that combined, create an explorers dream. This tour visits all of the known attractions in the area, but also concentrates on the lesser known sights and activities, offering a package of action and adventure.

Day 1 (Saturday) Cape Town - Knysna

Departing from the Drifters Cape Town Inn at 06h30 we follow the scenic coastline around False Bay. Our route takes us through the picturesque towns of Gordons Bay, Kleinmond, Hermanus and Gans Bay to Cape Agulhas, Southern most tip of Africa, where we enjoy a packed lunch. The Afternoon's drive takes us through rolling farmland, across the Malgas pont and into the true Garden Route, arriving at the Drifters Forest Inn near Knysna in the late afternoon.

Accommodation at the Inn is in log cabins situated deep in the Knysna Forest. We enjoy a hearty meal this evening. (Lunch and Dinner included) The Drifters Inn provides the perfect jump off to explore the highlights of the area, and the order of the following days will follow the weather pattern. 

Day 2 (Sunday)

A leisurely start today, wee travel east on the old "Passes Road", venturing deep into thickly forested ravines and high onto breathtaking lookouts, to the Tsitsikama National Park. After visiting Storms River Mouth and the suspension bridge, we will walk along th coast following the first section of the acclaimed "Otter trail", and enjoy lunch at a cascading waterfall.

On our return journey this afternoon the really adventurous may wish to try the worlds highest bungee jump at 216 metres (optional). We return to the Inn to relax after the days activity. After supper those who wish to may visit the town of Knysna to sample the nightlife. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

Day 3 (Monday)

Leaving after an early morning forest walk, we cross the mighty Outeniqua mountains on the winding gravel road of Prince Alfred Pass, into the dry Karoo Region. Our next stop is the world renowned Cango Cave complex where on may gaze in awe at the huge underground caverns, or continue through into the constricting maze of tunnels. The afternoon takes us to visit an Ostrich farm, where we learn about these interesting animals and the industry that surrounds them.

Using the Outinqua Pass, we cross back to the coastal region and travel via the scenic "lakes road" back to the Drifters Inn. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 4 (Tuesday)

This morning is to simply relax on the sunkissed beaches of Plettenberg Bay, those who still have energy may wish to do a walking rail on the Robberg Peninsula. The afternoon will be spent exploring Knysna and its surroundings, including Knysna Heads and a boat tour on the lagoon.  Drifters' Knysna Inn

Tonight we will sample, local cuisine at a restaurant (own expense) and enjoy the nightlife. (Breakfast and Lunch included)

Day 5 (Wednesday)

Another leisurely start, we begin our return journey at the Knysna waterfront where we board the Outiniqua Choo Choo, a restored steam train that follows the scenic coastline into the lake district and on to George. Here you are reunited with your guide for the drive back to Cape Town, arriving in the mother city at approximately 18h00. (Breakfast only)

This tour involves a fair amount of walking, so a small day pack and walking shoes are advisable. Clients should also be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.
Our price includes transport from Cape Town and back, food, coffee, tea, fruit juice at breakfast, all accommodation, permits and park entry fees, group equipment, Cango Caves, Ostrich Farm, boat and train trips and a professional guide.
The price does not include alcohol and soft drinks, tips, curios and optional extras.
